What this is about

Not every mobile workflow needs two separate store apps. When a responsive browser interface, home-screen installation and centrally delivered updates are sufficient, a progressive web app can be the leaner and more maintainable solution.

Existing use cases include browser-based gate control and web-based time tracking. We choose the architecture according to required device capabilities, network conditions, permissions, offline behaviour, privacy and long-term operation.

Field testing, not an app in a lab

The app has to work in the real workflow.

We test navigation, inputs, device changes and exceptions with the people who will use the application in the field or at their workplace. This turns a screen into a dependable tool.

One product, three possible routes

The platform follows the use case—not the other way around.

PoW24 develops more than iOS and Android apps. Mobile workflows can also be delivered as progressive web apps directly in the browser and installed on suitable devices. Users, device capabilities, network conditions, security needs and operation determine the route.

A PWA is not automatically a replacement for a native app. Required device APIs, offline behaviour and distribution are tested before the architecture decision.

01

Native iOS and Android apps

When deep operating-system integration, specialist device capabilities or app-store distribution are decisive.

02

Cross-platform apps

When a shared codebase makes sense without losing sight of interaction, security and device behaviour on each target platform.

03

Progressive web apps

When an installable responsive browser application with centrally delivered updates fits the workflow better than separate store apps.

Practical examples

Put web applications where the work actually happens.

Browser-based gate control and a custom web-based time-tracking application show two very different use cases: local technical interaction on a phone and a responsive business workflow across phone, tablet and desktop.

01

let the use case choose the platform

We assess users, device capabilities, distribution and operation first, then choose a native app, cross-platform approach or PWA.

02

plan PWA capabilities deliberately

Installation, updates, network boundaries, permissions and possible offline states belong in the prototype from the start.

03

test real devices early

Phones, tablets and desktops are tested early with the people who will actually use the workflow.
