Original software development with a press story

Project Osrik

Osrik organised Windows applications after system startup and launched them in a controlled sequence – an original solution developed around a real everyday problem.

Ordered sequence of modules on a precisely timed startup rail
What this is about

Osrik grew from a concrete observation: many applications launching at the same time made Windows systems of the era unnecessarily sluggish. Instead of merely recommending settings, we developed our own tool to analyse startup entries and launch selected applications in a controlled sequence.

The project reflects an approach that still shapes PoW24 today: understand a real problem, build software ourselves, test it in practice and explain it so others can use it. In 2012 – long before generative AI became an everyday development tool – that work led to our first experience with the press.

2012: Osrik featured on the cover.

Osrik 1.4, developed by PoW24, appeared as a cover feature in issue 3/2012 of the established German publication com! Das Computer-Magazin. Inside, the magazine presented version 1.4.1.1 and its interface, and the program was also included on the issue DVD. The article explained how Osrik delayed selected startup applications to ease the Windows boot process of the time.

From an original idea to our first press experience

The article documents an early milestone in our software development – built from our own analysis, code and practical testing, long before generative AI became a standard development tool.
